The Southern Spirit transmission line is on the agenda again (Exhibit 7). This transmission line would support renewable energy from Texas to Mississippi and could potentially bring more renewable energy to Louisiana in the future. The Commission approved this in August, but there’s a petition to rehear that decision.
Another agenda item of note is Exhibit 11. The Commission is expected to approve a settlement that will allow Entergy Louisiana to contract for 290 MW of the power from the 700 MW Magnolia Power Plant, which is being built in Iberville Parish to serve co-ops utilities. While the acquisition of more polluting fossil fuels is not in the interests of Louisianans, the good news is Entergy is planning to buy this energy as a Purchase Power Agreement (PPA), meaning the cost will be lower for ratepayers. If approved, Entergy Louisiana customers will see around a $0.75 cent increase for a 1000 kWh residential bill.

While you must attend the meeting in person to submit public comment, that’s why The Alliance exists. We know most people don’t have the time or energy to go to obscure meetings like these and, while it’s critical that your voice is heard, know that AAE will be advocating on your behalf and behalf of all Louisianans at LPSC meetings.
