Entergy New Orleans is making big decisions about our energy future—and you have a chance to weigh in.

On Thursday, February 13, at 6pm, the Alliance for Affordable Energy is hosting a virtual teach-in to break down Entergy’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP)—a complex process that will shape how New Orleans gets its electricity for the next 20 years.

Every three years, Entergy is required to create an IRP to assess future power needs and explore different options to meet them. The utility decides whether to invest in renewable energy, energy efficiency, or new gas plants—choices that directly affect the cost of your energy bills and the reliability of our energy system.

At a recent public meeting hosted by the New Orleans City Council on January 31, Entergy presented its IRP, but much of the discussion was technical, which made it difficult for people to understand and engage with the process. That’s where AAE comes in.

At our teach-in we’ll break down the IRP process, highlight key takeaways from Entergy’s plan, and show you how to make your voice heard.

The goal of the IRP is to select the best mix of energy resources—but the big question is, best for whom? Utilities often prioritize profits, but organizations like the Alliance for Affordable Energy are fighting to ensure Entergy’s plan prioritizes residents by investing in affordable, clean options like energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The New Orleans City Council is currently accepting public comments on Entergy’s IRP, and your voice is needed. By attending this teach-in, you’ll get the information and tools you need to submit an effective comment and ensure your voice is heard in this critical decision-making process.
