Rate-payers Saved $72 million
In a recent ruling by the Administrative Law Judge, Entergy was denied a request to charge the rate-payers for a failed nuclear power project. The Alliance joined Louisiana's Large Energy Users Group in a lawsuit against Entergy to protect rate-payers from unfair costs. Entergy spent a chunk of change on a nuclear power study before getting approval from the Louisiana Public Service Commission.
Utilities get to operate as a monopoly but in exchange for no competition, they accept regulation. Hence, the utilities have to get permission from the regulators before spending rate-payer dollars. Judge Meiners ruled that Entergy had not gone through the proper procedures. It's a big win for Louisiana's rate-payers! Read the final ruling here!
